Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the battery last?

The boat operates for approximately 4 hours on a full charge, depending on operating conditions and mission profile.

What is the radio communication range?

Radio range is up to 3 miles with clear line of sight and no obstacles. In environments with obstructions between the operator and the vessel, effective range is typically around 1 mile.

What happens if I lose radio signal during operation?

If radio communication is lost, the boat will automatically initiate a failsafe return-to-launch sequence. The operator can regain manual control at any time during the failsafe process once communication is restored.

What happens if the battery runs low during a mission?

When battery levels reach a critical threshold, the boat initiates a failsafe return-to-launch behavior to safely recover the vessel.

Does the boat have object avoidance?

Yes. The boat is equipped with a forward-facing, waterproof LiDAR sensor. During operation, the system will attempt to avoid detected obstacles or back away if an obstruction is encountered.

Is there a live video feed?

Yes. A high-definition forward-facing camera provides a live video feed displayed directly on the handheld operator controller.

Do the propellers get tangled in weeds or debris?

The boat is fitted with special cutting blades designed to prevent aquatic plants and debris from becoming entangled in the propellers.

What happens if a pontoon is punctured?

The pontoons are constructed from foam-filled, rotomolded polyurethane. Even if punctured, the pontoons will not sink.

Can the boat be dragged to launch locations where a trailer can’t reach?

Yes. The polyurethane pontoons are highly abrasion-resistant and can be dragged short distances without damaging the hull.

How are the batteries charged?

Batteries are charged using a standard charger plugged into a 120V wall outlet. When the charger indicator light turns green, the batteries are fully charged.

Do I need GPS to operate the boat?

GPS is not required for manual operation. However, GPS is required for autonomous navigation and waypoint-based missions.

Do I need an internet connection to operate the boat?

No. The boat does not require an internet connection for operation in any mode.

Do I need to update software or firmware before using the boat?

No. No software or firmware updates are required for standard operation.

Can I add a custom payload?

The boat includes auxiliary ports that support additional electromechanical payloads. For compatibility details and integration guidance, contact Riparian Systems.

How is variable-rate spraying performed?

Pump speed on the Caliber 3.0 can be controlled through the handheld operator controller or via the autopilot system. The pump must be calibrated based on the nozzle configuration selected by the operator.
